Never a Burden - Tsukishima Kei x Reader

Today was a normal day for the tall blond. School was boring as ever, his loud and enthusiastic friend beside him to annoy him to the fullest, same old everyday life.

Except that his always smiling and cheerful girlfriend who was the only person that the teasing jerk was actually really nice and caring to, was emitting a gloomy aura. Not that he did or said anything for her to act like that.

All Tsukishima wanted was to comfort her all day but the opportunities were missed because of the constant distractions and the fact that you have different classrooms.

First he couldn't talk to you this morning because of the load of things the teachers made him do.

At lunch he wasn't also able to eat lunch with you since the teacher made him stay for a while and dismissed him making him late and wasn't able to find you.

And at the end of the day, you usually waited outside his classroom beaming a smile as both of you walk towards the gym and wait for his club activities to finish, then he'll walk you home. But he was visited by no one.

He had no clue to why you were acting like this. He wanted to be with you and comfort you to whatever your problems and worries and make them disappear just to have you back to your old self.

While Tsukishima was about to leave the classroom, he took a glance at the window, and there you were, heading out to the gate and didn't even bother letting him know. This made him even worried.

"Hey Tsukki, let's--" Yamaguchi stopped mid-sentence when his four-eyed friend dashed out the classroom without hesitation. Yamaguchi tilted his head with a puzzled look. He turned to where Tsukishima was looking at earlier and finally understood his earlier behavior and just let his friend be and continued alone to the gym and cover for him if the team asked where his friend was.

Your POV

You rubbed your eyes again, trying to wipe the tears from forming again. You really didn't want to be with anyone since they could see right through you. Mostly your boyfriend, if you even faced him, you wouldn't be able to control yourself and break down in front if him.

It wasn't that he will make fun of you, to be honest he never did make fun of you or tease you, he was rather sweet and gentle to you. You just didn't want to act weak in front of him and be a burden and make him worry. Which was oblivious to you that that was exactly what you were doing to him.

You ended up avoiding him all day which was rather easy for you since he was called by teachers more often today. But you had to admit, you really missed him and felt lonely with out his warm and large hands for you to hold.

You sniffled and felt the tears build up again and you tried your best to hold it in.

You were about too turn and leave when you turned your head to have one last glance of the school when you saw your boyfriend running towards you. You were shocked by this and stopped your tracks.

When Tsukishima finally caught up, he pulled you into an embrace. Your eyes widen from your boyfriend's action.

"It's going to be okay, you can cry" he told you with a soft and gently voice while his hugged you tighter. Thankfully, there weren't any students to witness this.

Your eyes softened when you heard the security of his voice. Your fist clenched on his uniform and within a second, your tears flowed from your eyes and soaked Tsukishima's uniform, but he didn't mind. He just patted your head comfortingly until you finally calmed down and told him what has been clouding your mind lately.

"I-I lost in a contest that I joined..." you manage to tell him in a low voice, your voice strained from your sobs. Tsukishima lifted your head and saw your red eyes. He looked concerned and kissed your forehead.

"What contest did you join..?"he asked, voice still gentle as ever.

"I joined (skill you're good at eg. Drawing/painting, writing, singing, etc.) contest.." you looked down,feeling your tears again. Tsukishima stayed quiet, letting you know that he was listening so you continued.

"I-I worked s-so hard for it..I practiced so hard..but- but it all went to waste, i-if only I had more time I could've made it better" you felt the tears roll down you cheeks again and buried your face into his chest. But he lifted your head again and wiped your tears with his thumb and placed his forehead on your forehead and you stared into his eyes.

"It didn't go to waste, you were still able to show them how good you were. So what if you lost, you could always enter next time and you'll be as better than ever" you were entranced by his words and his eyes, amazed by him. "Why didn't you tell me?" he asked, "B-because I didn't want to burden you since you've been busy with school and volleyball lately, I wouldn't want to think too much and give you stress..." you confessed and felt guilty when he gave you a hurt look.

He sighed and relied, "I'm your booyfriend, I need to be there for you and support your decisions. You were never a burden, I'll help you through anything, so believe in me more okay?". You nodded and stayed quiet.

"Don't worry about it, you're still my amazing and wonderful girlfriend" he continued, "I love you.." he whispered and kissed your cheeks lovingly.

Once you both pulled away you responded with an "I love you too". He held your hand and pulled you close to him as he walked you home.
